The name Hannibal Lechter inspires a great many emotions within people. Why is this? Why do we in a civilized society get a great deal of satisfaction from "peeking under the sheet" on a stretcher? Why does everybody slow down when there's an accident in the opposite lane of the freeway? I suppose that nobody really knows the answer. . . except maybe Hannibal.
Thomas Harris, author of Silence of the Lambs, and now Hannibal has been purported to live a secretive lifestyle, which has been quite devoid of details to the general public. Some say that he's at least as strange as the characters who inhabit the peculiar dreamscapes of his novels.
On this page are some links to "Hannibal-Lechter-Like" sites and locations in cyberspace. To begin, go to one of the official homepages of Sir. Anthony Hopkins, the brilliant actor who portrayed Lechter in Jonathon Demme's film, Silence of the Lambs. Sir Anthony is often compared to the late Richard Burton. But I think that Richard Burton should be compared to him.
Anyway, Hannibal Lechter is maybe the embodiment of Evil as we know it today. Real human beings belong to the genus and species Homo Sapiens. Fictional characters, such as Dr. Lechter, belong to Hominus Fictus. But they seem absolutely real when experienced in a motion picture. Perhaps that is where the thrill lies: We can 'have our cake and eat it too', or experience the Badness without any of the legal consequences involved in being accessories after the fact. Oh, well. Who knows. Characters like this are fun for many; they spice up an otherwise bland existence.
If you want a ton of laughs among the granite markers---and some hints of the morgue thrown in---then check out The Evil Clown's Page (a creation of Yours truly). But come back, Dear Net Surfer. Hannibal does not appreciate being ignored or snubbed.
OH, YES ! I did mention that I had some fava bean recipes, didn't I? Don't worry: None of them have anything to do with liver. . .
